Description

Native Plant Giveaway for Landowners along the Guadalupe River & Tributaries

Are you a landowner or land steward who was affected by the July floods?

On Friday, June 12th, and Saturday, June 13th, the Hill Country Alliance and key partners will be hosting a plant distribution event at Mosty Brothers Nursery in Center Point. Over the past several months, several commercial nurseries have been custom-growing these plants for landowners impacted by the July 4th floods in the Upper Guadalupe River Basin.

Each landowner will be provided with containerized native plants and educational resources to help enhance restoration efforts along your water's edge (riparian zone). Enhancing the riparian zone with a diversity of strong rooted native plant species helps restore bank stability, improve water quality, habitat, and support the long-term health of the Guadalupe River.

Who: Landowners along the Upper Guadalupe River and tributary creeks (one registrant per houshold)

What: Free plant distribution for riparian areas

When: June 12th 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm and 13th 10:00 am - 2:00 pm (1. Register for the event. 2. We will send you a link to sign up for a time slot.)

Where: Mosty Brothers Plant Nursery, Center Point, Texas

Why: By planting these species along the water’s edge, you’ll be helping restore bank stability, improve water quality, habitat, and support the long-term health of the Guadalupe River.

Additional information: We will be providing to landowners, free of charge, large numbers of containerized riparian sedges and grasses that are crucial for the restoration of the river. These four native species are emory sedge, beaked spikerush, switchgrass and bushy bluestem, and should only be planted at or near the water’s edge in perpetually moist soil or gravel. When planted in this location, they will not need to be watered and can be planted even in the heat of summer. During the event, we will provide land stewards with educational resources and a hands-on demonstration for where and how best to plant these species along the water's edge to enhance riparian function, flood recovery, and river health.

Please RSVP here no later than June 8th so we can plan accordingly - thanks and see you soon.

What to Bring:
